Reefsource Update

Hello everyone!

It's been a really long time since I sent any updates out to all of
you. The reason is that I changed computers and lost
www.reefsource.com in the process. I've been slowly rebuilding it
and have some new information up for all of you. Probably the most
important thing is that I am changing mailing list servers, so it is
necessary for you to subscribe to the new list if you wish to
receive updates via email. Information about how to do this is on
the home page. Other interesting developments are:

** I have added a search engine to the website. This should help you
in using the species database. Speaking of the database, it was lost
along with the rest of the website. I'm slowly rebuilding it and
hope to have it completed by the end of the year.

** The United States Coral Reef Task Force has recently released a
couple of interesting documents, one concerning their current
strategy and one concerning the state of the coral reefs. Long, but
interesting reading!

** We've had jellyfish mysteriously appear in our system...is it
larval rearing or actual spawning?? We're not sure, but they're
cool! Pics and movies.

** As you may know, I have been a huge proponent of and extremely active
in the Marine Aquarium Council in the past. The last update I sent
you included information concerning my resignation from the board of
directors. I have not seen any of my (and many other people's
concerns) addressed properly, so I am now making my views public
after keeping them private and within the industry for almost a
year. You can read the letter I sent to MAC Executive Director Paul
Holthus and get a better understanding of the problems that MAC is
facing and why it is so imperative for them to address these issues
if they want to implement true industry reform. There is also a link
to my discussion forum at www.reefs.org where other people weigh in
with their MAC concerns.
