reactor media

I'm in the process of setting up a calcium reactor- 90+ mL of B-Ionic were killing me!!

Anyways, what media do you guys use in your reactors?
(read "what is the best reactor media?")

LOL

Thanks,
James

James, I have always used Carib-Sea ARM. It has worked well for me. I have a few bags of GeoMarine crushed coral left over that I am thinking of trying.

Thanks, that was one I was looking at... I'm just checking to see what's popular!! The pump, etc. should be coming next week. I have a couple of bags of aragonite (carib sea) of varying particle sizes left- I wasn't sure if anybody used them in the reactor...

I use ARM but I usually mix in 50% crushed coral cuz the media is so expensive.....I could have bought a tub or two of the Korallin media at macna for cheap and im Kicking myself in the butt now for NOT buying it, from what im hearing its pretty good stuff. I have heard that CC needs to be cleaned real good or you might get some phosphates, and you might wanna take out any big whole shells you see in the CC from what I have heard.

Scuba,
Do you mix in one cylinder? I was thinking of running ARM in the first & crushed coral in the second. I have never used the Geo-Marine, myself, but seen many posts of others using it.

Hey Doug,

I just dump all of my media in a bucket, then I dump about as much CC in the bucket too, and put some gloves on and stir it w/my hands real good to mix it....and thats the media I use....theres no real science to it

I'll put another vote in for ARM. It's working very well for me. Haven't tried anything else.

We've been running the ARM media since we setup our reactor in March. It has been working very well.

I know the packaging says you can run a higher pH effluent, but I was wondering what pH others are running?

I also use ARM on both tanks and have had good luck with it as well.

George, any of the above mentioned phosphate problems with the use of GeoMarine.

Doug, I still run mine around 6.5 but its a homemade duel stage.

My scrubber should also compensate for any excess phosphate from the crushed coral, then. Thanks.

Send a message via ICQ to Steve H.
I've been using the geomarine crushed coral for a year now without any problems as well.

I also use Geomarine in my dual chamber reacter. I have a refugium and had no phosphate problems. I have had low ph issues. My reator has been running about 8 months and the ph runs between 7.7- 7.9.
My outlet pH 6.2 although it was lower before. I since got up to there.
I think the biggest thing I wasn't told was that, it should be called an Alkalinity reactor not calicum. It maintains my 12dkh very well. I add a gallon on kalk water every night to help pH and calcium.

Golfish, any particular reason for the Korallith/ ARM combo?
