Emergency Help

I haven been around for a time now...my 90 gal has been doing pretty good, with exception (uhuh!) of a slight infestation of hair algue. I got home about 30 minutes ago and started taking some of the macro out, and something very peculiar that i have never seen happened. It looked like a mass exodus of thousands of worms from the substrate... and it looked like (pardon me my lack of finese( they were all taking a dump at the same time. As we speak i am getting ready to do a massive water change.... any sugestions as to what is goign on? I really dont know if i have given enough info... we will see!

Hey obring

Nice to see you around again I wouldnt be too worried about the worms....worms are good for a SB, but the detritus (poop) may be mopped up by adding a few nassarius snails. Now as far as the hair algae is concerned you more than likely have a source of nutrients and its probably Phosphates which generally spurs hair algae. I would check your water that you are using for topoff and make sure there is no phosphates....if you are using RO or RO/DI water then you might have to change the filters. I have had great luck with lawnmower blennys cleaning up the hair algae....Hey BTW dude your close to Orlando....do you come to the orlando reef club meetings? You really should try and make to the Dec. 7th christmas party....its a blast! and we do lots of tradings....let me know if you want to come and I can probably bring you up some nassarius snails (the detritus eaters) Heres the orlando reef club site.

Thanks for the input... i finally figured out that the "worms" were probably in the clumps of algue that i removed... it was a good scare... i am due to do some heavy duty testing and maintenance... will also try the blenny....

I will be in Houston on Dec 7th (work and some pleasure too )) but will definitely keep my eyes on the site! Nice to know you are all so close!

Again,,,thanks!
