    <--new guy

Hey, first post here, I'm getting started soom (hopefully) on my new 75g reef tank. I'm trying to decide how many and what type of snails for cleanup crew. All the online stores suggest 1 per gal, but that seems a bit much, Input anyone?

I would go add about 1 snail every 2 to 3 gallons to start with. I would get some nassarius for the sand bed/detritus and the rest being margarita/trochus/or astrea. You can get turbos too but they do get huge.

Having too many snails might lead to overgrazing and lack of algae/food source. Moreso, some of the snails can reproduce fairly fast therefore you don't have to buy to many at first.

You may get several answers to your question but I feel 3 months to 6 months min. Wait till everything get stable with your water chemistry. Clams do not like large swings.

While you are waiting for your tank to house a clam I would get the Daniel Knop book, Giant Clams and do some reading.
