LPS not opening up
hey guys
I have a long tenticle LPS of some sort. I am not sure exactly what kind it is because I have never seen another one like it. Any way it has stopped coming out as far as it used to. I will come out is some spots about half way and then retreat back into the rock. Do you guys have any advise on what this might be. Thanks Jeff |

Hard to tell without seeing a pic, but do you feed it and is there too much current hitting it? Might change his spot and try feeding some brine or krill.

Jeff does it look like this? If so feed it some raw shrimp or prawns from the grocery store. Cut it into the size of an eraser on a pencil (or slightly smaller) and use a pair of tweezers to place 2-3 pieces on the tentacles.
Regards, Kevin

It looks alot like that. However, I think mine has sort of flower looking things on the end of it I am not sure if this is different than yours or not. I am also not sure if it makes a difference. The main structure of the coral is very similar. Will the tenticles just suck it up? Anyway thanks for your help I will try that.
Thanks Jeff |

I think you have a Goniopora sp. It is a very difficult coral to keep alive. The common name is flowerpot coral. It could also be a Alveopora sp. The main visual difference between the two is that Goniopora has 24 tentacles at the end of the stalks and Alveopora has 12 tentacles. They both have very poor survival records in captivity. DT's may be the best food to try. I don't feed mine anything. I recieved 2 of them for free from my LFS. They came in as bonus corals in a shipment. Half the tissue was missing on them but they have since recovered.
HTH, Kevin

that is the coral alright. However, mine is a little more green on the ends but I used to be a little more brown than it is now. How did you get yours to recover? I posted another topic last night. I said in it that there was a 4-5 inch grey and white stripped worm crawling on the coral at the base of it. Do you think this could have had any effect on its health. Do you know what this worm thing is. I took him off and threw him in the trash. Any advise is great
Thanks guys Jeff |
