Salinity and Clams
I would like to hear what you are all keeping your salinity at and what do you measure it with?
Have 3 small 18 gallon tanks sent up so I can do some testing on different things such as feeding, pH swings and salinity. I have run a 60 day test with salinity swings to see how the clams react. Am NOT doing this with my holding tank. ![]() Also your pH. Barry |

Barry,
We run our tank at ~1.0255 and 82F and use a refractometer calibrated with RO/DI water. Here are the other numbers if you need them; pH = 8.18-8.3 Alk = 3.46 Ca = 430-440 Have a good Holiday if we don't talk to you before then... Doug and Trudy

I use a swing arm meter. I checked it with an old labortory hydrometer calibrated for 78F and a refractometer. I keep my S.G. at 1.024.
PH 8.1 - 8.3 Calcium 420 - 440 ppm Alkalinity 3.0 - 3.5 meq/L Regards, Kevin

I hope you and Sherry have a wonderful vacation,I think both of you need it If I don't get to talk to you sooner, have a great holidays.

I keep my tank at 84-86 degree peak. I don't measure my pH. I have a little problem with my home made Ca reactor and have my Ca down to 300 lately. I am getting it up again. My Alkalinity is down to 2.5 the other day.
I use a refractometer to measure my salinity and keep it at 35 ppt. This is the only varible that I ma entirely happy with. Minh

Salilnity is at 1.025.
Use a Tropic Marin float that was test and compared to a refractrometer. Have not checked PH in 2 years. Cal around 400 ALK around 2-3.5 Have hard time keeping it up. Temp is at a steady 78.6 which is recently lowered from 80.1 Last edited by tendar; 12-12-2002 at 01:53 AM. |
