Just some pics from work...
Hey all,
just thought I would throw a link up here that connects to a folder on our site that has some various pics. There are a couple that I can't take credit for (they start with "ty_" for thank you from SS users) but the rest are from the tank here at the office we are slowly getting back into shape after the death of a large Naso on a weekend caused the thing to crash pretty badabout 7 months ago. Combine that with a plague of mojano's ,and you have a pretty terrible problem to overcome. Anyway, here are some shots. I will probably be adding to them today now that we got our ORA frags mounted ( I highly recommend getting some frags from thier retailers!). Also, some of the Acro colonies you can see are really coloring up, and I need to show comparisons. The tank is somewhere around 160 gallons, at about 45" L x 28" D x 26" Tall . At least its somewhere around that... I am not really positive, never took the time to measure and calculate exactly. The lighting is always changing as it acts somewhat as a testbed, but we currently have a couple actinic, two 250w DE lamps (one an ushio 10k, and another is a experimental 10k we are testing that appears a little more blue than a AB...nice!) and smack in the middle is the 400w Radium running on a pulse start ballast. Water flow is up there with about 3100 GPH in the tank (only the Maji-jet is on a wavemaker), and then we have a 1" sea swirl return with a 1100 GPH pump on the return from the sump. I guess totals would be in the higher 3000's after the head is taken into consideration. Flow is another thing that changes. We are currently test operating some new Rio (yes...I actually said it ) Hyperflow pumps which seem to be working ok so far. The filtration is pretty simple. Water flows from the overflow to a egg crate in the sump with a little floss on it (more to do away with the micro bubbles than for filtration) and is changed regularly. The skimmer is too small for the tank, and is a PM venturi. Don't know the model, but it seems to be working OK for what it is. And that's pretty much it, aside from a RO/DI auto-topoff (which is the best creation in the history of mankind). No reactor, YET....currently doing the B-ionic thing. Thats somthing we have to do here soon. Anyway, here is the link. I'll get some more posted sometime soon. www.sunlightsupply.com/aquapics Regards, Perry Sunlight Supply, Inc. |

Hi Perry,
I was helping a friend hook up their calcium reactor and skimmer a few days ago and I noticed they had 5 of your 1000W pendants. Who is the manufacture of the bulb? They looked like footballs. Are they corallife's? I have only seen the Ushio 1000Wers before and they just look like a longer 400W bulb. I really liked the built in vent ducts on the reflectors. They sure put off some heat! They have the tank (2,500 gal) in a separate room but they will need to extract more air than they currently are. Regards, Kevin

Hey Kevin,
If its who i think it is, then they have the 1000w Cool Delux lamps. They are one high output lamp! Most large scale and public aquariums use them for displays. We are in process of getting in some really good 1000w reactor ballasts for them to use for supplemental radium lamps. What they need to do is get extraction fans for the air cooled fittings, and suck all the hot air straight out of the fixture. Be sure that you get some pics of thier set-up sometime. I will be making a drive up that way sometime in Feb. so maybe we can meet up and take a tank tour. I know there is some nice ones up there! -Thanks for the thoughts guys Perry Sales/Development Mngr Sunlight Supply Aquatics |

Perry,
I would love to have you come by and talk reef Zephrant (on RC) lives about 20 min east of me and always likes to show off his DIY projects. I just finished testing a giant becket skimmer that he built on my tank last week. It needs just a couple of minor adjustments and it will be a fine skimmer.Regards, Kevin

Here's another shot. I haven't been able to do the cabinet work since I lost my job. I need to find a carpenter that will work for frags

Great artwork Kevin
Tell your wife she's a fine artist in my book.I wish my wife let me paint walls with this kind of artwork, let's just say she tolerates my hobby(and let me spend some of her money on it...) Your stand,is it DIY ? I'm going to borrow some ideas from you when I'm ready for the next tank,if you wouldn't mind ofcourse.Seems like lots of money to spend on stands from the stores.I rather put it in the tank and other gadgets.

Thank you Gene! I have some crude electronic drawings (in Excel) that I could send you when you're ready. My stand is made from 2x4's and 4x4's. It is all held together with treated deck screws and galvanized brackets. It can be completely disassembled when I need to move it.
Regards, Kevin
