Refugium Substrate Options
So it is time for me to by me a Christmas gift
for myselfI was wondering about the following options for the hang on refugium (CPR) that I am about to get. I was looking at the following substrates: Mineral Mud (Carib Sea) Funkey Old Reef Mud (Weiss) Marine Biosediment (Kent) There is one other popular type mud that I cannot remember Can I buy one of these and then mix it with some SouthDown Play Sand? Or will I defeat the purpose of these "mud" type sands? Are any of these better or not as good as the other? Thanks for any help, CaptK |

I have a cpr 18" hang opn refugium on my 37. I put 5 lbs of mirical mud in mine when I set it up a year ago. So far it has run perfect but I have a feeling in the next 6 mounths I could start having problems.
I have read a lot of posts of people having algea blooms after the 1 year mark with miracle mud in thier systems but time will tell. If I do I will remove it all and go with just some sand. |
