any ideas as to why leathers stay closed?

Hi everyone,

I have a 60 gal tank, with a bunch of leathers in it. I have 1 large one, about 5 medium sized ones, and a couple of small ones. My question relates to how ofetn they stay closed. I know they shed ther 'skin,' but mine seem to do it more often than not. Most are probably closed at least half the time. They are all growing, none seems to be dying at all, and everything else in the tank is doing fine. If they are having a chemical warfare, it seems like they would be dying. (?)
Everyting else is doing fine. Any ideas?

I have the same problem enavgeline. Except, I only have one and I'm a super newbie I have what was called at the LFS an Umbrella Leather. I can't find much information on it anywhere, but I do know that they like to shed a lot When I first brought mine home (about 2 weeks ago), it took it a while to open. Once it opened it looked very happy and healthy. It attatched to the rock in about 4 days. Now, it is securly attatched to the rock but has been closed up for a couple of days. Noticing this, I freaked out and did every test on the water I could think of. Everything is OK for the water, but the coral still remains closed. I also have some small polyps and mushroom coral and those look great. With the lights on, the leather look normal, just closed up. When I shine may nightly watch flashlight in there, it looks slimy. I'm starting to freak out now but I guess I'll just wait it out and see what happens. Good luck to you evangeline, I'm sure everything is OK with your leathers.

Raking leaves isn't that bad, it's just picking them up that sucks.
