RICORDEA experts: What are the rarity of colors?

I'm looking to come up with a list of colors that ricordea come in, and how rare/special/valuable those colors are. Could people put down which colors are rare and which are 'rarer'. An example is that Green would be considered very common. Thanks for your time!

Sylock,

In the early 1990’s before the ban on Richordea Floridia rocks, a local LFS used to carry gorgeous large encrusted rocks. Sometimes, these rocks would have 30 or more polyps.

Some of the colors that I remember were different shades of greens, pinks, orange, reds, and blues.

Haven’t seen anything to equal these since.

Regards,

Scott

Im no expert at ricordeas but I will say that I would be very leary of some ricordeas that are noted to be hard to find and then all of the sudden you see them popping up in quantity. Please everyone educate themselves into noting the difference between the "Real McCoys" and an artificially colored coral. For more information on this I have an article on my website written by Anthony Calfo on artificially colored corals

There are 3 different types of Recordia mushrooms:

1. Recordia Florida:

SPASSE is right about the ban of this type. However, in the last few months theis recordia have been coming from Haiti and a lot nicer than the recordia that used to be collected from Florida. They are both the same species and they have been coming in a wide range of color:

Bright jade with Purple rim/ 2 shades of Blue/Orange/Pink.

2. Recordia Yuma:

From the Pacific and I have seen in them in a wide range: Bright Jade and sometimes with purple background/Light Purple/Orange/Pink/Hot pink and the Rare Red.

3. Unidentified Recordia: which is similar to the Yuma, however, they have a larger disc. They get about 3-4" in diameter and mostly single polyp. This type also comes from the Pacific and I had only seen in them in: Bright hot pink and Teal/Aqua.

None of these Recordia mushrooms are dyed and they are all natural. I will list some pictures shortly.

Adam,
I Hope you dont think I was referring to you when I said this! I just want others to know that this problem w/Dyed corals is real and out there and its a shame! I realize you have many rarity pieces that are hard to find and I Have a great deal of respect for your operation! So please take my statements as a generalization and not in any specific direction.

Do these go with pretty much same light requirements as other mushrooms or do they need more?

scubadude,

I didn't think that your statement was anything bad. We are both on the same side when it comes to issue of dyed corals.

Tendar,

All Recordia Florida mushrooms are best kept under VHO or PC lights about in the middle towards the bottom of the tank. I noticed the Blue ones turn green under MH.

Recordia Yuma require more lights than the Florida ones. Top in the tank using VHO or PC, middle of the tank with indirect light or bottom with MH.
