Ok I have a new 120 (48x24x24) 1/2"acrylic tank being made will have it next month. It will be a LPS softie tank with possiblity of a couple of sps if go with halides. It will have a single 4"x9" corner overflow. That is all that is set so far.
Here are what I have planed so far nothing is set though still mulling it over since it wont be setting it up till at least march probably april.
The single overflow is because I really dont see the need for high flow in a sump when a closed loop is used so it is quiter and loose less room to overflows.
The sump will be 30x20x20 (50 gall) with most of is holding a 5" deep sand bed. The tank drain will drain into first chamber with skimmer (thinking probably a MyReef MR1 with a mag12) then flow through a baffle to flow over sand bed and calurpa then through a couple of baffles to a Mag7 or possibly a Iwaki20-30rlxt to be returned to the tank through possibly one of those new SCWD waze machines ($50 why not try it).
I will only have around 2" of sand in the display. I just dont like the look of the deep sand bed in display and to me wastes to much room also.
Do you think the sand bed in the sump would be enough for the whole tank?
I will run either a closed loop with 2 sea swirls a 1200 gall external pump (iwaki or mak4) $600
Or get a Waze2k center unit. $200
Really leaning towards the waze2k for several reasons one big one being price and the other is no outside plumbing to leak or mess with. Oh and I think more natural waze motion.
Lights I have listed in the lighting sections but a quick list
Either
2x150 icecap HQI
2x250 icecap HQI
6x48" VHO
Sea light form for info on this problem or idea anyway.
The stand will be built locally not a real question here other than depending on what lighting I use on if I need a canopy or not.
I am going to try and setup a 20 gallon above tank refugium since the back of the tank will be right beside a counter so can place a refugium on it with 5" sand and some more calurpa adding on to what is in the sump.
Like I said the only thing set so far is the tank itself and that isnt actually built yet will be started next week everything else I am open on and any thoughts on how you would do it would very welcomed
Thanks
Gregg
