How much substrate is needed for a DSB in a 55?
I've got about 2 1/2 inches in my 20 gal that I'll use to 'seed' it. And I have bought 2-40lb bags of Caribsea Arg. How much do I need to put a 4-5 in DSB in a standard 55? Any math majors out there?

Hey Napolean!
I am no math major but I do have a handy sand bed calculator that someone made available a few years back. The image below show's the results in lbs needed for a 5" bed.

Napoleon,
I have a 55 with a 4" DSB. Mine is 90 lbs of Caribsea Aragamax sugar and 40 lbs of their "reefsand" -- 1 bag of the larger grade and 3 of the sugar sand. Rebecca |

Thats KEWL Scott! any chance you could put that up on Reefland? Would be a great tool to have for the boards use. I used Reefcentrals SB calculator before and it figured I needed 480lbs of SD for my tank to have a 5" SB on a 220g but I ended up putting closer to 600lbs to get a 5" SB .....go figure
