Overflow info
I'm having a 150g tank built (48 x 24 x 30) and need to know what dimensions the overflows should be to accomodate a Durso or Stockman standpipe.
I'm planning to have the overflows be about 10 inches from the sides of the tanks. I don't want to look at the pipes. Any problem with that? Should the overflows be as tall as the tank itself? (But then cutting teeth into them) How tall should the teeth be? That's a bunch of questions. Thanks for your help. Kimber |

Hi Kimber
![]() What type of return pump are you gonna use? Are you gonna use the stockman or durso standpipe? the reason I ask is because the stockman takes up much less room, but can be a little bit more trickier to build than the durso (not too bad though). You need to know how much flow you want going through the O-flows. I take it your doing dual overflows? |

Hi Kimber!
I use a 1.5" "Durso" style pipe in my standard AGA 75RR tank and it fits after I shortned the T and the elbow by sawing a bit of them off. I would say that a 7" x 7" overflow area would be fine for the standpipe but maybe 10" x 10" if the return comes up through there as well. a 10" x 10" area would give you a little more room to "play" if needed.
As for your second question, I don't see any problem with putting the overflows away from the corner. Perhaps place one large overflow in the center of the back and put both drains in there? Regards, |
