Has anyone ever kept a horse conch? I got one from my lfs, assumed I was getting a fighting or queen, as part of a clean up crew and in three days it's already killed 2 of my astrea snails. Is it worth keeping or will it basically kill all my snails?

Take it back to the LFS. Tell them to get you the right type.

Wow! I just looked that thing -- Horse Conch (Pleuroploca gigantea) -- up and found out that it's maximum size is 24".
I would agree with Chris that you should take it back to the LFS. I would recommend that you get a Fighting Conch (Strombus alatus) since your 55-gal tank is not large enough for a Queen Conch (S. gigas).

Thanks guys, I just talked to my LFS to make sure they got a fighting conch on there next shipment. They had no idea what kind of a conch they sold me or that it was a carnivore, sneaky devils pawning it off on a newbie!

I was just curious as to what a Horse Conch was, so I looked it up and maybe this is a good site to bookmark. The horse conch is the third photo from the left on the top row.
