I also can't make it out without a better macro picture or closer shot.

Is that a Macroalgae at all? I've never seen an algae like that ever. It's a new one to me.

Yeah the closest thing I can think of are gorgonians looking kinda like that, BUT that is not a gorgonian. I'm also interested in this type of macroalgae.

Can you let us know where you think it came from?? Maybe a Fiji rock? Tonga? MarshalL? Maybe that will point a specific direction to look.

Free food for tangs are good, though

I believe it may be Acanthophora Spicifera. Hey Greenman any chance I could get some from you? I would be willing to give you some $$ for it and naturally pay for shipping.

I'm agreeing with Rocky in this one. They are a type of red algae, usually light brown/green in coloration which resemble the ones you have in your pics. And in fact yellow tangs do eat it, and in Hawaii this species is an invasive species, overcrowding the native algae species of Laurencia.

I went to some websites to confirm this and I will get the links up shortly. Right now though I have to go to the university and school...

geezus!! wow! it'd be scary to put that in the main tank, but it works nice for a refuge. However, i like to have the greener types of macroalgae like Caulerpa.
