Hey everyone I have a 55g tank thats only been up for about 3mos and I just got over a battle of cyano. I had it on most of my DSB and on some of the LR. I used some red slime remover which worked great, took care of it in about two days.
The bad news is now I have this gold algea that basically is the same as red cyano. Like red cyano it only takes a couple hrs of light to cover the bottom, also the water still has that funky smell like cyano is still present. I've done a number of water changes with RO water, syphoned the algea, and added various items to clean up crew, nothing seems to be working. The only places that are clear are the areas of low light and low current. Any ideas? Ryan |

I too have used the Red Slime Remover with great success, however it only dissolves the stuff into the water column so, shutting down your skimmer and doing massive water changes after the stuff has been dissolved is the only downfall of the product. If you are fairly sure that your water source has low TDS then I would add another powerhead or two in the areas where you are getting your cyano still building up. Dont worry this is all fairly normal it will end and you may have another type of algae yet to bloom for your cycle ![]() |
