Eliminating Sandstorms
I am in the process of adding some aragonite sand (from Carib-Sea) to my existing tank. What is the best way to do this without creating a humongous sand storm. Is it o.k. to leave my fish in?

Hi Gary,
I was going to save this for the DIY forum but a man in need..... This is what I did. I took a 6" diameter plastic sewer pipe (it's what I found in the yard after they hooked our house to sewer. I just knew I was going to need that piece of pipe someday ) and cut the end with a jigsaw. Then set the pipe (make sure it's clean first) in the tank with the end sitting on the bottom. If you already have some substrate bury the end about 1/2" in it and hold the pipe at a angle or rest it on the side of the tank. Then pour the sand in the pipe until it reaches the water level inside the pipe. VERY Slowly lift the pipe and let the sand out the end. I added a couple of hundred pounds of sand to my tank this way.HTH, Kevin
