SPS Colony Relocation (Pics)

Well, I finally did it ... I pulled out one colony (one that was receiving too much light actually and does much better in lower light) and relocated another ... what do you think?

Here is the left side of the tank last week. Notice the blue tipped colony on a rock and sitting on the sandbed. Notice the duller looking colony right behind it.

Here is the new look. I pulled the blue tipped colony off of it's rock and located it within the crevice of the rockwork. Of course I pulled the old colony out ... The colony I pulled out is the last picture, around 6.5" tall ... I need to find it a new home SOON as it is sitting in my refugium right now.

The removed colony:

Looks amazing as Mnt. I would love to see what you could do with a bigger tank, say around 300 gallons. Imagine how sick a tank that size would look if it had colonies as dense and healthy as yours. As if ths isn't something you have already thought of.

Ohhh, I don't think a 300 gallon tank is in the cards anytime soon. If I move, maybe a 180, but not planning on moving quite yet

Thanks for the compliments on the tank.

Chuck,
come on. You should do what we all do. That is to get a bigger tank. The bigger the better. Turn your whole room there into a fish room. If I were you, I put a huge sump in the garage.

Thanks Michelle How are those new critters doing that you guys got this past weekend?

The removed colony is holding it's own Zach, I am going to keep it a while to see how it does.

Hey Chuck!

I was just wondering what kind of equipment changes/additions you have made since then as well as any major system or maintanence changes?

Hey Chuck! They are doing great, Scott was real nervous about the Flamehawk, but I told him he would be good! I've been wanting one for a long time, finally talked him into it.

Yeah so far he is behaving, I hope he continues, I'd hate to have to "warp his head"!

Flamehawk? Do you have any shrimp in your tank that you really care for?

Scott ... to answer your questions ... hmmmm

Equipment changes ...

None really ... I added a second chamber on my reactor
I added a Kalk Reactor recently as well, both enable me to keep up with my high calcium demands.

I currently use an Ampmaster 3000 on my closed loop in lieu of an Ampmaster 2700

I changed my skimmer from a Lifereef to an AquaC EV120

I changed the sea swirl outlets to PVC outlets to get more flow and lower velocities.

That's about it for equipment differences.

From a system and maintenance standpoint, no real changes. I do water changes once every couple of months. I clean the skimmer cup once every 2 weeks at the most. I clean the inside glass at least twice a week.

I guess basically it is the same ole thing over the last year ... not much has changed.

Nah we don't have any shrimp and don't guess we'll be getting any. The Flamehawk sure is a cool little guy.

I was just curious about your routine and any changes made. Our next equipment addition will be a Calcium Reactor/Sump/Skimmer change. It will be drastic and costly so definately down the road. Since I couldn't never get the closed loop going, we have 3 MJ 1200's in the tank right now and will place them on a RedSea Wavemaster pro soon to get some alternating current. I was against powerheads in the beginning but to our surprise, they really aren't eye-sores.
