Ok i need to battle against APTASIA!
After looking closely at my 25 gallon reef, I see about 6 or 7 aptasia anemones. I hate those things, and I knowyou guys do, too.
Should I get two peppermint shrimps? At the moment I have a cleaner shrimp in there but he's not eating them. Please comment, I KNOW thye will spread ![]() Maybe i should just Kalk them out. - Elmo |

I'd do the peppermint shrimp. Nothing beats a nice 100% organic solution.

We used both methods. Some of the aptasia were too large for the peppermint shrimp so we went after them with Kalk. The Peppermint took care of the rest (Minus the overflow...).
6 months and aptasia free..... Doug

I don't know, I tried both plus boiling water and I still have to battle them once a month.
I guess the spread from one of the sump / refugiums. ![]()

I use a paste that my LFS developed that is composed of kalk, pickling lime, washing soda, and something he won't tell me to bind it all together. I know it is safe, he has been using it in his main display tank for over a year now with no ill effects. I have used it in my home system for 3 aiptasia that were too large for my peppermint and one mojano. It is amazing to see it in action. You inject the paste into the neck of the anenome, and it literally disintergates, leaving a thin line of paste (looks like powder) lying on the rock where the anenome used to be.
It has no effect on water chemistry, unless you have a very small tank, or you have a lot of large aiptasia. In that case your pH is liable to go up a little, but a small water change would fix that. He sells the stuff for $12.99, including syringe, + s / h. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Inject their bases with concentrated lemon juice. They'll be gone the next day. But be careful not to inject too many at a time...it'll affect the ph of the system.

Pickling Lime and kalk are the same thing.... Calcium Hydroxide. Just different levels of pulverization. Most of the "kalk" is very very fine, "pickling lime" is just a little more course.
