Yeah they are really nice, i'll post some close-ups later. Michelle, my fiancee got them for me.
Surprised the heck out of me, she got home yesterday and said she needed some help carrying some things in; to my surprise it was the corals. ![]() |

Hi Scott,
The pink one appears to be a Styophora pistillata to me. I have one that started out looking just like yours. They are easily subject to algae overgrowth IME. If you keep it in an area of good flow it should not be a problem. They also like high light to keep the bright pink color. It's hard to find one not bleached from the LFS. Yours looks very healthy. As it grows I'm sure it will be one of your most commented on corals. Regards, Kevin

Hi Kevin!
Thanks for the feedback. Why do you think the coral is subject to algae overgrowth; what contributed to the growth on yours?
I already moved it out of the direct light as it appeared to be lightening a bit. This is pretty common though as most of the corals we purchased have had this due to the different light intensities I suppose. Regards, |

I always thought that algae will not grow on living tissue but on dead tissue. Kevin, are you saying that this one is susceptible to tips dying away and then algae growth on the places where it lost tissue?

That sounds right to me too. I hope it will do well, the color sure is pretty on it!
Just to boot, we picked up two more today (pics to come later). One is a white with purple tipped acro and the other is a peach colored table. They are both really nice too. ![]() |

Alrighty, as promised here are some pics of our new additions. Both of these are Walt Aquacultured corals.
Purple Tipped Acro: ![]() Peach Tipped Acro (this one has a table form, I hope it stays that way): And an almost whole tank shot: ![]() Gosh this is so much fun! |

Scott, that tank is starting to really look nice ... You sure are getting lots of coral lately. Some nice pieces too.
I worry about that whitish one. Almost looks bleached to me. You rarely see such light colored corals and when you do, they typically are bleached. Even with some color on the tips, they can be in a bleached state. Keep an eye on that one. |

Chuck, I think I have something very similar to Scott's piece and it looks a bit bleached as well.Nice blue/lavender tips but overall I'm worried about that one. It's Walt Smith piece as well.It has a white crab in it and I just wonder if it has something to do with the color of the colony?Don't they blend usualy? Here's pic of mine, tell me what you think guys
![]() It's starting to color up a bit going down the branches and I'm thinking maybe to move it more towards the bottom. What do you think Chuck? TIA.

That's a tough one Gene ... hard to see that one in that picture well. Looks like it has more colorations on the overall whole coral. But still looks a bit bleached as well.
Usually lower light is better for a bleached coral to help it recover. If it does recover it will likely take quite a bit of time. If it still has tissue and you can see polyps extending at night, then keep at it ![]() |

I don't know if it is bleached our not, the coral seems really healthy as the polyps are fully extended to the point it looks quite fluffy. Nearly every tip of the coral is purple and again it looks very healthy. I might try and drop an e-mail to Walt Smith to get his thoughts.
We are really pleased with the corals we have been getting lately. They are filling up the tank nicely and adding some great color throughout! |

Scott,
Let me know what they say, I am very interested You do have some great coral in that tank. You must have some good local suppliers there ... Keep up the great work. Here is a piece I have that is similar in coralite structure to your lighter colored one ... I say similar, doesn't mean the same (there is always that caveat ... laugh) ... ![]() |

Hey Chuck,
That does look a bit similar but something is different about it, Michelle and I both said that but can't really pinpoint the difference. I just sent an e-mail to WWM and Walt Smith to get their thoughts, I think Bob F. is pretty familiar with Walt's corals which is why I mailed him as well. I will surely let you know the response. The local shop we go to has been taking a little advice from us. He has a decent store with only saltwater and is working on expanding his SPS capabilities. I don't think there are as many "stick heads" locally as there are soft, LPS and fish enthusiasts but we'll change that. ![]() |

Thanks for your input Chuck
FWIW,the pic of your colony resemble mine in terms of the coralite structure alot.It has polyp extension but only at night and tissue is all there. Scott,I'll be interested to hear what Walt or Bob have to say on this as well.

S. pistillata will get algae on it's live tissue. High flow will prevent this. Although they get the best coloration under intense lighting be very careful to acclimate it first.
I have had very good success with the WS corals. The first one is a bit bleached not to worry it will turn like this one ![]() The second is A. sarmentosa (I believe) Regards, Kevin
