New fish addition Harlequin Tuskfish

Well got the Harlequin Tuskfish I have been wanting for a while.
Picked it up yesterday from a LFS I had order for me.
Its around 4" long and looks very healthy. He ate some krill today all ready. It is pretty shy so far though hidding alot if near it but that is suppose to expected of the younger ones from what Ive read.
I have it in my 40 corner tank right now that I redid and added a sump this last weekend getting it ready for some Ocean rider sea horses next month. I will keep it in there for quarentine for the next couple of weeks. Once the quarentine is over it will go into my 90 that I just moved rock and sand from 2 other tanks into and in the middle or arranging right now. Then will transfer to a 180 or larger next year when I get a house and new tank.
I did manage to snap a couple of pics before the batteries died in the camera. Need to recharge.

What an awesome fish. We had a MARSH member that had one in his reef system and it did very well for him. They are so beautiful in the colors they exhibit. This fish should do great for you. Keep posting pics as it grows. Very, very nice...

Thumbs up

Very nice fish and pic, tendar! I plan to get one of those in the coming months, just as soon as I get my FOWLR set up. I'd like to get one that size or smaller, they seem to "bond" better and be better "pets" when you can get them small.

It's been a while since I had one (my daughter named the last one "Tony the Tiger" -- she's 23 and in college now ). I'm quite envious of yours.

Good Luck with him!!!

Tendar.

Are you telling me the Harlequin pictured above is only 1" long? There is no way. Your fish has pretty much the full on adult coloration. Once again there is no way an H.T. at 1" long will demonstrate those colors. I've seen them 3"! long and still displaying juvi coloration. The fish pictured above looks to be at minimum 4" in size.

Other than that, I've had this fish, and it did wonderful for me until I decided he should be moved to a larger tank. Now my buddy has it.

Sorry. I guess your fish is 4". Why did you say 1" in your second post?

Bad wording on my part, I was saying that I have not really seen them much smaller say 1" smaller than what I got.

Gotcha. The smallest one I've seen was 2". It totally looks different than the 4" and up guys. It almost looks leaf like, not as colorful, but still very interesting looking.

I just placed 2 hermit crabs in there with him to try and clean up a little and see if the tusk would try to eat them. He went right after them but has not gotten one yet and seems to be giving up some. Man he is a messy eater. Will need some more hermits when I move it to the 90.

They usually leave hermits alone. Once we got a hold of a good sized hairy acro crab and threw him in right in front of the tusk. He destroyed it, it was pretty awesome.

He will also destroy the parasitic snail population in your tank which can be a great thing if you plan to keep clams.

I would feed mine Freshwater Mysis "PE" and Omega or Forumla 1 flake.

The tank is only some softies and lps for corals.

I just got 8 8oz packs of the PE mysis the other day I was going to try some tommorow and see if he eats it all my other fish love it. I will have to try some flake when I move him to the bigger tank since I feed flake in the evenings.

He might be a tad finicky at first, but man, once they settle down they will eat coco pebbles and not care.
