Starving Blenny!!
Hey guys I'm hoping to save my lawnmower blenny from starvation but I've run out of ideas for feeding,
Does anyone have any ideas how how to save this guy. Maybe I'm just not feeding it right, I don't know I'm new to this, hope someone has suggestions.![]() I have plenty of macro algae(grape caulurpa(sp?)), even small patches of hair algae, and some algae on glass, he won't touch any of it. I have tried flakes, Nori(on feeding clip and fastened to a piece of LR), even tried brine shrimp, but nothing happened. Usually my CB shrimp would run after whatever I put in the tank, but my blenny would just sit there and watch the show. Ryan |

Maybe try some plankton I have seen anthias that wont eat anythign but and eventually if you mix it with brine they will eat the brine as well.
Just an idea Jeff

I've seen several lawnmower blennies do that. I've never seen one recover.
![]() I would try all the algal preparations I could think of, and mix it very sparingly with mysis or brine shrimp. Surely if they are going to eat, it would be algae of some sort (also add vitamin supplements!!).

I've had exactly the same problem as well. When I first got him he ate a little, mostly turf algae, then it just quit. I have a refugium with many types of algae, he just would eat any of it. Tried mysis, brine, flakes, anything I could think of. The outcome was heartbreaking, expecially when I see one of the blennies from the same shipment at the lfs is so fat it looks pregnant.

Hello,
Sorry to say this but he is doomed. I have had two of these guys, one that I had for almost 4 years and the other for a 1 1/2 years. then one day they just stopped eating. I did the same as you guys but nothing works. I look for any info and found almost nothing. The one thing I did find was that they don't do well with salinity changes and that could be a cause for them not to eat. But I don't really know if that is a fact or not I just remember reading that on a post one time. Sorry I am not much help but, good luck! VTEC SI |

Thanks everyone for the replies, even if the outcome was as I expected, 'doomed'.
When I got him he was very healthy, stomach nice and full, about a week I realized I was going to lose this battle. I asked the lfs where I bought him what they feed him, but they said they never have lawnmower blennies in long enough to get them to eat, in one day and out the next. Oh well, very cool species though, lots of personallity, from what I have read it's just kind of hit and miss when it comes to getting one that feeds. Thanks guys! Ryan |

I got one when I had a hair algae problem and within a week he was fat and happy. Month later the algae was gone, then he thinned up. Only thing was he would also eat regular food, flake and anything else that floated by. Only bad thing is he would not fatten up, he still starved to death.
