iodine x clams

is iodine really necessary for clams? can levels of iodine a little higher than 0.06 ppm do any harm to tridacnas? does anybody uses lugol for adding iodine to the tank? i saw in sprung´s book that we sould use 1 drop per 20g per week. is this right?
