bugs
we were just peering into the tank with a flashlight.its 2 am here.anyway we saw a bunch of little bugs all over the glass and floating around.what are they and are they good/bad

Hi imgrtful!
What you are seeing are Amphipods or Copepods, maybe both. Copepods are smaller and the Amphipods can be identified by their backend "curling" under them. It might be hard to picture but once you see it, you'll know what I am saying.
These are very common and very desirable in the reef aquarium. They feed on detritus and they turn into live food for your fish and coral. The population can sometimes get "overwhelming" depending on your currently livestock and other times you see them occasionally. Mostly, they will appear on the walls of the aquarium and rocks after "light's out". Regards, |
