Clam-Only Tank

I'm thinking about setting up a new tank for clams. Is anyone doing a clam-only tank out there?

I don't have room for a large tank. It has to be 100 gallons or smaller. Will this suffice? What kind of lighting? Can I get by with VHO's for clams?

Thanks for any input.

Am going to be setting up a small clams only tank. Just have to wait to have it built.

Your tank size is going to be nice. IME I would not go with VHO, go with my then you will be able to keep all the tridacnid clams.

I am going with 10K with actinic suppliments.

It was my pleasure chatting with you this AM. Like we discussed, MH is the way to go and it sounds like you have a great plan.

Here are three good sizes for a clam only tank: standard 40-gal breeder, standard 75-gal, or a 100-gal with dimensions of 48"L x 24"W x 20"H.

I would choose 250w metal halide lighting on any of those sizes. Two lamps for the 75 or 100 gallon sizes and one lamp on the 40. Actinic supplementation is optional.

Good luck,
