New pics of my 240g

Hey Guys, I finally got my digicam. I opted for the Canon G2 instead of G3 so I can get myself a Calcium Reactor. Anyway, here are some pics that came out halfway decent, still trying to learn how to use this thing. I'll probably be emailing Greg(gregr) until he blocks my email address Here they are!

Left side at an angle

Right side at an angle

Frontview

Left Sideview

I didn't place the right sideview because I have to get another pic, it's too big and I hope the rest of these aren't too big either. Let me know if you have any pointers, especially in how to make the pics less blue under Radiums.

Thanks,

Lyndel

Great looking tank, and as for how to get the colors less blue under radiums, that is a big problem I had with radiums. I messed with my brightness on my camera and wb, and it helped a little.

Here's a pic of the right sideview of the tank. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow on the equipment, it's a pretty simple setup, no high tech equipment.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I actually broke a section of that monti last week cleaning the tank when my ladder slid away and I reached for anything to hold on to. I was so angry, but you can see the big piece in the center of the tank where the 175w is to allow the shaded section to color up. I just realized i didn't type in the specs.
240g mixed reef 8'x2'x2
2 x 400w radiums along the sides
1 x 175w 10k center (soon to be replaced by 2x250w
440w VHO actinics ( i replaced the back right actinic with URI aquasun)
I like alot of blue in my tank
50g rubbermaid sump
refugium to be set up soon
Underpowered ETSS Reef Devil (it does the trick - not looking to upgrade anytime soon)
Calcium reactor - coming soon
dosing ESV B-Ionic, kalk, kent marine liquid calcium, aragamilk, at different amounts and days - keeps my calcium at 450 so far, don't ask dosage, it's a pour and done technique

Lugol's and Kent Marine tech-I

occasionally Coral Vital DNA supplement

Target feed - golden pearls, DT's, Chromaplex

I'll try to take equipment pics, but I have a pretty simple system, no high tech filtration and dosing units. Sump's hard to tank a pic of, because i have a weird stand and hard to get around it. It's a rubbermade, so it's pointless taking a pic of the outside since you can't see thru it. Protein skimmer is an underpowered ETSS Reef Devil II, but it does good work for me keeping the water clean. The calcium reactor is me(well, so far, until I get a reactor) I dose B-Ionic, kalk and kent marines liquid calcium.

Hey Devil,
You want to make a calcium reactor with me? I have all the equipment. You just pay for acrylic. I will show you how to make one.

Dat, that sounds good, have you made one already? Did I hear you built your tank too. I think David wanted to learn how to mess with acrylics also, i'll ask him, you can give us a workshop

Haha. My workshop is using a coffee table as a router, a $50 table saw I bought from the recycler, and some knick knacks.

I think the router is the most important equipment so far in terms of working with acrylic.

Well actually I did go SPS and now have two calcium reactors in the attic. I also tried the two part B-ionic. Its just too expensive and too much trouble for my taste. The clams and corals to ungodly expensive. The calcium reactors cost me around $600 each fully setup and they would only run a week without the lines becoming clogged with calcium. My schedule is just too rough to have SPS, the constant testing and such. As it is now the aquacontroller turns everything on and off and I never ever test my parameters anymore. The softies look great and I am very happy with my tank with just soft corals and fish. Anyway I gave away most of my LPS and SPS and just called it quits other than the soft corals months ago.

Yeah, it is time consuming and i think that's what separates us from the rest, even though you keep softies and fish at least you're still in the hobby. Many people just gives up on it completely. It's definitely not for everybody and it really tests people's will and pocketbook i suppose. You have a very nice looking tank regardless, i love softies, but i try to keep it minimal due to their toxic nature around sps.

I had been abusing my web site by not adding pictures, many many updates will be added this month. I ditched all my old pictures and will be posting new ones every week so please check back. We just added our forum too and trying to get some stray traffic, I love to admin a forum, it is too cool to do one one your own. I did not want to get out of the hobby all together, I knew I would regret it and maybe in the future when I move I might do more calcium corals, but I doubt it.

Snoop - it's a montipora capriconis, an sps, very hardy. You might be able to get away with it in your tank. I've had people get frags from me to try out in there systems with PC or VHO's and maintained good growth results.
