The spread of light isn't really that good but should do. I may have to add a couple more. It's all about experimenting! I believe the little reflective fixtures I used made the light beam tight. Boy they are bright little suckers!

Very Nice!

Awesome job Chris! Especially on the moonlighting! Can you please give more info on the moonlights....You dont think there is too much blue in your tank w/the 2-400rads and 2 175Ushios? I really like the coloring but it almost looks too blue. I am very interested in seeing how your corals end up liking it......Another thing im interested in is your sole startup of Bio Essay and how your corals will like it, I have started doing W/C's on one of my tanks using bioessay and have noticed a minor bleaching, but im not sure I can attribute it solely to the new salt. Please keep us informed on your whole venture....and thanx for the pics!!

Well Scuba,

I don't know if it was just the tank full of new mix or my imagination but everything seem's alot happier ---- can't really say. The Bio Sea MarineMix mixed really well for me, even in the colder water out of the RO. I tested the calcium level before I did any kind of addition and it turned out to be about 340 ppm using a salifert test. I boosted it with some Seachem yesterday and it was 390 today. I'm just added another dose and will check my level's tomorrow. The color of the pictures does look very blue but in person it is a better mix. And you know - call me stupid but I didn't even aclimate my stuff before i put them in the tank. It took most of the corals about 15 - 30 minutes to pollip out. My clams opened up in about 10 minutes. As soon as I gather up the moon light info I will post.

Thanks

Its been a while!

Well I thought I would give you an update. Everything is starting to get its growth on, finally! That is usually what happens though, takes four months or so for everything to get settled in and happy. The one thing that has most supprised me is my Squamosa's growth. It has grown about one inch maybe a tad more. Plus with the new lighting it's spots have turned from a pale green to deep blue. I am very pleased with the Bio Sea Marine Mix. Any way here is a picture:

Scott,

I don't plan on adding any more live rock except to mount the brain coral on. I'm trying to find a flattish piece for that ---- maybe 3-5 more pounds. I like minimal amounts of rock.

Any concerns about a large bio-load with minimal amount of LR?

Scott,

I don't really have concerns about biolaod. I think alot of people fill their tanks with too much live rock and actually "clog" up their systems because of flow issues and becuase critters can't get in between the rock work and underneath. I have a 3" sandbed in my refugium and a 3 -5" in the tank which should help along with a powerfull skimmer (MR-2). I also am planning on having quite a few clams which will soke up Nitrate and Ammonia.

Very nice looking setup! Glad to hear everything is going well.

Keep sending us pictures -- esp when you add more clams!
