Anyone using Calurpa in their Overflow?

For the strange question of the day: "Is anyone using calurpa in their overflow as a mini refugium?"

I have more pods and shrimp in my overflow that anywhere else so I was thinking, what would happen if I threw some Calurpa in there? The overflow gets light and lots of nutrients. It may have too much flow and make the calurpa go sexual, but it's worth the question.

I did this once, and my overflow got really nasty quick. It's a pain to prune when some of the stuff is at the bottom of the overflow.

i agree with everyone else that it would get clogged up real quick and be a general pain ....

my overflows have covers i made out of black acrylic...but with the amount of songe and featherduster growth etc i get in there-ive often thought of maybe trying a non-photosynthetic coral or sponge in there and see how it does.

my overflows hold about 3 gallons-i could shut off the return pumps a few times a week and throw a bunch of plankton type foods in there. i could have a diverter line with a ball valve on the line underneath going to the sump ,so when i turn the pumps back on i could divert the first five gallons and do a water change...thereby maintaining them in a nutrient /plankton loaded(at least part of the time)enviroment..and still maintain the water quality in my display.

like i said- ive thought about it -but havent done due to lack of unlimited funds and time
