Triggerfish
well i took the risk and added one of the most nonsafe triggers to my 40g reef, before i later transfer it to my 90 or 125g tank. A huma huma triggerfish named Tommy, eats just about anything, although I have a question, at night, he seems to wedge himself into the rocks, is this normal?
oh by the way.....he hasn't touched any soft corals yet(all I have) but he does blow sand around quite a bit. |

I love triggers, the huma huma is one of my favs. (I like to call it a picasso, rolls of the toungue better I think)
From what I've been reading, they use that 'trigger' to lock themselves into a rocky crevice in hopes of not being eaten. Sounds pretty normal to me. |

K9anna,
Have you tried the Marine Center? They are online at www.themarinecenter.com They have a pretty extensive trigger collection and I'm pretty sure they usually stock pink tails. I like them, too! If I were in the trigger market, I'd get one of them, or the blue ones like Kevinpo has! |

Sounds normal to me. My Niger likes to eat, and then zips into his little cave and stays there for about 20 minutes.

Not to try and hijack a thread but Chris said he has a Niger in his Reef tank I want one in mine, but I am afraid it will go ballistic and eat all my softies snails and hermit crabs... Any ideas?
And by the way the Picasso or Huma Huma will absolutely wedge himself wherever he can fit.... Mike |

I was a little leary about adding a Trigger to my reef - still am. Right now he is only about 2" long and very docile. He hasn't even looked at my 2 Peppermint shrimp or any of my softies. My goal is to keep him well fed and happy so he doesn't turn nasty when he gets larger. I'm upgrading from my 55 gallon to the 120 gallon I have posted. My Orange Spot Rabbit keeps him well in check.

Glad to hear it...
I have some sort of predator in my tank that already eats every shrimp I put in there so maybe the Niger will find it and eat it for me.... I'll put one on my short list!!!! |

I have a bluejaw trigger in my reef tank. She is very peaceful, doesn't bother the cleaner shrimp or the hermit crabs.
She was a bit shy at first but now she is out and about the whole tank. Good luck on your choice. ![]()
