How does one differentiate between a regular maxima vs and ultra?
Is there a set of criteria for this or if it looks like "wow" it's and ultra?
Never kept clams before but might be thinking of one soon.

That's pretty much it. The most colorful and brightest are designated "ultra" and command higher prices at the wholesale level. I'm not sure if there is a written set of points to consider; you might wait to see if Barry responds.Originally posted by dattack

The 1st grade is a less colorful clam but yet I have seen some very nice clams that were 1st grade.
First picture is what we consider to be a 1st grade clam and the second one is graded as Ultra.
Clams view better from the top. Looking through the side glass sometimes they will appear a different color.
In Crocea, normally the grading is 1st grade and Electric .
Hope this helps.

Yes 'WOW!' is a good description. Ultra's are the elite clams.

Wow never realized there was that much color difference from different looking points. My new tank is doing well and holding its own. Still waiting for that Max and Dersa that catches my eye Barry.

The only dumb questions are the ones not asked.
75 Gal. reef, 30 Gal. Anenomie tank
Glad to hear that your tank is doing well.
Have seen any small derasa in a while, just receiving large ones.
