my green "linkia" star reproduced!!!
one of my green linkias dropped a leg about three months ago -and i saw the detached leg crawling toward the back of the tank-hadnt seen it since ......i kept a close eye out for it for the first couple months and then gave it up for dead....
during this whole time i was watching the one that dropped the leg to see how it was doing-its been regrowing the leg and now has a nice pointed stump with a blue tip like the rest of his legs: |

you should have seen my nephews face when i showed him the severed leg crawling away
i put on my best night of the living dead speal and he was pretty freaked so yeah it was kinda gross-but now its kinda cool.. who knows -i wonder if i could cut a leg off or if the star goes through some special process or something? fragging starfish-who knew? captive propagated stars -who wants one? anyway-i have had all kinds of "linkia" stars: orange and blue ones seem to last around a year..those purple ones with orange feet(not linkias) that eat soft corals -they seem to do ok but i got rid of it pretty quick (i like my softies too)..but others keep them for long periods of time and they are beautiful they just eat corals sometimes..so they are ok too..but the green ones -of which ive had two for over a year now -and now three-seem to do good in my tank -they are healthy and growing . just a little fwiw-ime for anyone who wants to add a "linkia" star to their tank ![]() Last edited by organicreefer; 04-01-2003 at 02:44 PM. |
