Clams and critters

What critters i.e., fish identified as reef-safe and inverts, would not play nice with clams?

TIA

David,

You will find that for every fish someone says is taboo, three people will tell you they've had one for years without any problems.

Generally most people stay away from Angels, Butterflies, and I've heard of some Wrasses causing problems. I've known people that have had a Flame Angle for a couple of years and only recently had problems with it nipping at their clams.

Thanks Doug!!

You mean there is differing opinons within the hobby?

Any invert critters taboo - hermits, shrimp, etc?

Again thanks for your input!!

David,

We have Scarlet and Blue hermits along with Peppermint and Cleaner shrimp. No problems to date. It's entertaining to watch a big clam launch a snail or crab when they get annoyed.

I do watch our bristle worm population and clean the bottoms of our clams every once in a while. Our big Derasa clams have a gap in the shell at the bottom where bristle worms like to hide.

What is the rest of your system like? Lighting, Size, Age, etc.

Doug

I am in the process of setting up a 55 gal reef. Up until about 2 weeks ago, I had a 30 gal FOWLR. I am getting the 30 drilled for my sump. Kind of unique location for the sump. It will be in a closet about 3 feet away from the tank. I had planned on putting it on the otherside of the wall behind the tank, in our game room. My wife strongly suggested that I look at the closet (which is where I really did want it)It adds about 18" of distance between from original planned area. As soon as I get the 30 back, will get it everything set up. Will be using a 5" dsb. Also looking at putting a fuge above the sump. Am hoping that this weekend will be my weekend to plumb.

Lighting is a CoralLife combo of 2-175 W MH w/ 2-55W PC's. Will be hung from our ceiling. Currently have a Berlin Turbo Skimmer - which will be upgraded later this year (just did our taxes yesterday and as it turns out, the upgrade in the skimmer may be a bit later than I would like)

I know that I am 6-7 months out from getting any clams or corals, but I don't want to get something after I start up the tank that may not fit w/ the clams.
