Help--911
Hi Everyone,
This morning I wake up to find my Coral Beauty dead in the sand I also find that all of my soft corals are closed up and slouched over. My Green Brian is all inflated and I happened to notice my Bubble Coral was spewing this whitish cloud. My BakPak skimmer is sending TONS of microbubbles into the tank. This usually only does this when I add food soaked in vitamins. My pH = 8.2, phosphate & nitrate = 0 and salinity = 1.027 are all OK. Did not measure for Alk or Ca yet. I have NO idea what has happened, but I don't think this is good. I just started making a batch of water to change and also added some Black Diamond Carbon as well as some SeaGel Carbon into the tank. The only thing that seems alve in my 29G tank are my Clown Fish, all my hermits and so far all snails are accounted for. If anyone has anythoughts as too anything else that I can do to get through this without anyother losses I am ALL EARS!!! CaptK |

The only thoughts that come to mind are that the bubble is disintegrating, or it's spawning.
I had a soft coral, called "young" coral, looked much like a leather, that spawned twice, causing my tank a lot of grief. The only suggestions I can make are to make lot's of water changes and put a diatom filter on the tank. If you don't have access to a diatom filter, you can use the Haegan "Quick Filter" units on power heads, but they take longer to remove the spawn.

Hey Capt. The water change is first as you know. I bet your Ammonia is high. I would do a 50% change now and do 25% every day or other day until things get right. Check inside your skimmer to see if anything is stuck in it that could be sending polutants into your tank. Good luck.

Since I first posted I have done a 30% water change and also cleaned my skimmer. Microbubbles are still clouding the tank and my skimmer has yet to pull out anything. It is just releaseing lost and lots of bubbles. I am wondering if I should turn the skimmer off??
This is SOOOO frustrating!! CaptK |

Hi Capt, i'm sorry for your loss
Here's what I would do:Turn off your skimmer. Get some carbon, and put it in a poly bag, etc etc or whichever way you usually use it. Run it for at least several hours. - Elmo |

Here is an update on the disaster,
- Sunday morning the tank is extremely cloudy. Both my soft corals, a yellow fiji and colt coral, look like hell. The are all skinny and look torn. The water also smells a bit. So I figure these corals are dead. So I have removed them. I then turn on the skimmer and it went nuts! It pulled out a clear liquid and still is putting TONS of bubbles into the tank. I only ran this for a few hours. All of the snails, hermits, and clown fish look fine. The Green Brain has returned to normal size but my Bubble Coral is still all closed up. And both Montipora corals look OK also. -Did a 30% water change also. Today I wake up, everything is still the same except wate is just a bit less cloudy. I ran the skimmer for about an hour and it still pulled just a little of the clear liquid. I am going to to a small water change later tonight. Well that is all. I am hoping I can get through this with no more losses. I am still trying to figure out if I caused this all to happen. The last thing I did on Friday night was top off 1/2G of water and also fead some 2 Little Fishes Phytoplankton. (This was only the second time I have fed this to my tank per the instructions) Thanks, CaptK |
