I was wondering what everyone thinks about painting the back of a tank.I am still in the process of setting up my new tank and after installing some of the lighting and equipment,I can see some of the power cords and some of the plumbing. So I got this idea(Iknow it is'nt original) of painting the back of the tank to hide some of this, and I was thinking about a dark blue........what do you all think?
TIA, David |

I really like the color that I painted my tank. The stuff I used was Glidden Evermore Interior latex enamel semi-gloss. I used a blue green light color because from all of the pictures of reefs that I've looked at the photo is mainly focused on a specific object on the reef and then you see the background that is lit up from the sun. My goal was to make it look more of a blend rather than a wall. If you look at my thread for my 120 gallon you can see pictures and decide for yourself

They can mix it to whatever color you want at Home Depot.

I painted the back of my tank black. I used the same type of paint that Chris used. Got it from Home Depot but I'm sure you could get it anywhere.
My tank is not completed yet. My hood is not finished and i don't have my sand or water in it yet so i don't really know what it will look like when i'm done. I have seen pictures of tanks that had the back painted black and it looked good. It is really up to you what color you choose but i think that blue would look good.

I just painted my 125 about two weeks ago. Use an exterior semi-gloss enamel from Home Depot -1qt.
Word to the wise...take your time, you'll probably need several coats. I think I ended up puting 5 coats on mine, with about 1-2 hours drying time between each. You'll be glad you did when your done. Good luck. |

I painted both my tanks dark blue. I used Delta CeramDecor Perm Enamel (satin finish)specifically for tile, glass and ceramic. I got it at the craft store. The thing I like about it over the other kinds of paint is that this is so smooth the magnet glides over it easily. That's not a concern if you don't clean the back wall. Of course if you ever decide to remove the paint, that is not an option.
I much prefer blue over black. I've had both and blue is much more attractive, at least in my house. ![]()

I paint all mine black. The blue looks great when its sqeaky clean but looks bad with a little algae buildup. With the black I let algae grow on the back so my fish can graze and you don't even see it.
