New 125 Up But not soo good.
I finaly finished my stand/hood and did the switch from my 90 to my new 125 about two weeks ago. Unfortunately Ive been haveing problems with the southdown sand creating an endless storm.
Appears Im going to have to remove it and use my first choice of substrate CaribSea. Any suggestions on how to get this sand out'a my tank? |

What kind of flow do you have through the tank? How deep is your sand bed? You should probably turn the water flow down until it settles. I had to do this on my 120 I just set up with a 4.5 - 5 inch sand bed with oolitic sand. It will take a couple days minimum.

I agree with Chris. Adjusting the flow is the way to go.
I wouldn't remove the sand . If you have a mechanical filter with carbon , that is what I use during a sand storm.Takes a couple days.

I have to agree; the sand will eventually settle. Obviously it is going to be deeper in some parts than others due to the current but it will settle eventually. It took our new tank about 3-4 weeks to become crystal clear after firing everything up and sure some sand still becomes a bit displaced when the current directions are changed but it is tolerable.
I realize this may be a bit tougher with livestock in the tank but if you can give it some time, it will settle. Regards, |

Stick with the southdown. Don't use the Caribsea. I wouldn't be worth removing all the SD to put in the Caribsea. You will just be spending money that you could put into something else. Just be patient. Just my 2 cents.

I agree, My tank took a few days to clear up. AFTER i turned off all my pumps...
Once its clear then fire it back up, and adjust accordingly. Because u have corals in the alreasy u might try the Aqua Clear Quick Filters att ached to a powerhead, like a 402 they work amazingly well Mike |
