Air Bubbles
Since I reworked my sump, I now have a rubbermaid container due to house space reasons. This is kinda temporary but I have the 1 inch pipe going straight into the sump and it is creating major air bubbles there. The bubbles are shooting back into the tank and it is quite a site to say the least. There is a 90 elbow at the end of the pipe pointing at the side of the sump to help, but it doesnt do much. Anyone found constructive ways to get rid of bubbles.

You can put in a baffle system to reduce the bubbles this will probably help. All you do is take pieces of plexiglass and make a kind of maze for the water to go through. You have the water go over the top of one baffle and then under the next. Two or three pairs of baffles will probably do the trick. HTH

Well that is not really possible in a rubbermaid sump.

In my sump I have the Baffles AND I also added a second 90 so the water comes up straight, it makes a littel more noise but less bubbles. Also if you add a Coarse sponge around the outlet it will help reduce the bubbles..
Kinda hard to discribe, but picture a u tube in reverse and add a Foam Donut around the output... Hope that helps, Mike |

You could also put some live rock ruble under the pipe or find a food grade 1 gal can and place under it and have water overflow it into the sump. The majority of bubles should be trapped in the small backet. I think I'm rambling now and need some sleep-it's been a long day

A filter sock also will help just have to clean it now and then and second one is nice so you can switch them out for cleaning.
The other thing you can try is getting a bucket that will fit in the sump and higher then the water level in the sump and place a few pieces of live rock in it to hold it in place and cut a few holes in the side of the bucket neat the bottom for the water to come out so the bubble go to the top and water drains out the bottom a lot like the way a skimmer works Last edited by tendar; 05-16-2003 at 10:50 PM. |
