Question

Can humans eat it? Has anybody tried? We tried nasturtium leaves from the garden in our salads... spicy but good. I originally planted nasturtia to control aphids on the roses.

In the next 20 years, commercial algae products are going to hit the markets big time, processed as meat substitutes, salad fixins, soup base, and more that nobody's thought of yet.

Land is becoming too expensive for cattle farming in the Northern Hemisphere, and after oil prices go up high enough for the grazing lands in the US go into oil production, I don't know what that will do to the price of beef... except I remember what meat costs in Tokyo.

Doh,

I started with the Yellow tang first, tehn added the Kole tang a couple weeks later. After that, I added the purple tang about 4 months later and then added the Powder blue last about 9 months after the purple tang. As I added each one, there was some territorial fighting between the tangs already in the tank and the new one. This usually lasted about 3-4 days and then calmed down after that. Even now, they will occasionally whip their tail at antoher tang that gets in their way, but by now it is more like siblings arguing over the big piece of chicken! They get along great now. Just be prepared to witness some muscle-flexing from the "old" tang anytime you add a new one--they will get over it....

Yo Rob...
Eat what the cualerpa?...
I can send you a bunch for your next salad if you wish...LMAO!!!
But since seawead is a staple food source for much of Asia...who knows..??? But grape cualerpa doesn't last more than an hour out of water...it shrivels up quite fast...due to the fact that most their volume is water. I guess you can keep them in water for freshness...sorta-like tofu!

Yeah,

My parents' generation think that tofu is disgusting, not _real_ food... and that seaweed is only to be endured at japanese restaurants which they try to avoid in the first place.

But... attitudes change.

Rob,
some caulerpa types are actually toxic.
I don't remember right now which ones, but the name of the toxin is on Baensch Marine Atlas vol. 1 in the caulerpa section. (caule-something...)
The one toxic type I remember right now is caulerpa taxifolia, but I'm sure there were others too.
