What do you feed your Brittle Stars, or do you just let them scavenger around the tank for leftovers?

Mostly, mine just scavenges around the tank. However, whenever I feed my fish, my brittle star's arms shoot straight for the sky to try to catch some of the fish food, which he successfully does every time. He also eats any leftover food that the fish don't get. A great addition to anyone's tank.

I agree,
I have two brittlestars and two serpent stars. The brittlestars are very active when food is added to the tank. The serpent stars never come out completely, but at night their arms are extended from underneath the rockwork, I guess they are night feeders primarily. They have all been in my system for almost a year and a half, they are eating, or scavenging something!! ------------------ Greg |

I have a serpent star that immediately comes out when I feed...cool sight...I feed mine whenever I feed the LPS, once a week. It's "trained" so it doesn't hide when I'm feeding and just hangs out at the corner of the tank waiting for his share.
I feed frozen seafoods...nothin special, just bits I always put aside whenever I cook seafood for human consumption ...I keep a stash in the freezer all the time, from clams, mussles, fish, shrimps and squid. ------------------ The Nut! My star also comes out of hiding the instant I start feeding. I usually shoot a few brine shrimp his way. It is funny watching him wrap his arm around it then manuver it to his mouth.. and as soon as I am done he goes right back into hiding..

I have a brittle star in my tank for about 1 year now and he NEVER comes out! Even at night when I shine a light in the tank, he is still lurking around in his home. I find this very strange because all everyone talks about is how their brittle stars come running out as soon as food is put into the tank.

My brittle star moved into a large colony of green star polyps a couple years ago and has not moved since. Just waves his arms around for food. Eats most anything floating by but likes pellets, krill and pieces of fish. Also likes to hold hands

Hey Rob; He likes to hold hands with me. Usually eats from my hand also, so is most likely looking for food, that is when he can beat the shrimps into my hand to get it.

I feed him every now and then just to be nice. He is a foot long from one tip to another and in a 29 gal tank he doesnt have any problem getting food when I feen anyway. He started with only 2 legs when I got him has grown back the other 3 in the last 3 mounths.
