my new pagoda is sliming on a continuous basis, not much, just a little, but I have been removing it with a turkey baster. Is the coral sliming because it's acclimating to new surroundings?stress related? obviously! Didn't know if this slime would harm anything in the tank or not if it floats around. The slime from the anemone doesn't, I know that. ------------------ Don't think so much....it takes the fun out of life!!!! |

If it is the tissue sliming I would say there is a problem. It could be that the LFS water conditions vary from yours enough to cause it. I would check there for salinity, temp and the other main coditions to see if there is a large enough difference to cause the problem.

Nuff - I'd give it some time and let it get a little more acclimated before worrying too much. Sometimes sliming could be a result of different things. First off, if you are fiddling around with it too much (ex. touching it), it will definitely slime up. If you move it around from place to place, it will also slime. Reefland did bring up a good point about the lfs's water vs yours.
I say give it some more time and if you are worried about the slime hurting your other animals, I vote for small water changes, and sucking up the slime with a siphon hose. Just don't touch it when you do this or it will slime more. Hope this helps. ------------------ ************************* Did I tell you about AllAdvantage.com? Nuff..if I remember correctly you got the coral on clearance...so I was just wondering if it's brown slime?...Is it stringy or cloudy, puffy like? If it's brown jelly then your suckinig it out with a baster is good...brown jelly can eat up a coral in a matter of days...but won't babble anylonger until you can describe the situation a little clearer...
I just looked at the picture you posted prviously and that's why I have some concerns, because brown jelly is an opportunistic condition and usually with injured or dying corals. ------------------ The NUT! Alex's Ocean Realm GO FOR A DIVE!!! http://home.earthlink.net/~amariquit/thereef |

nope no brown jelly, just a clear slime, strings of it, so,e detritus sticking to it, and yes I have been 'fiddling' with it, and moving it around. It is in it's final resting place now (no pun intended).
as for the water conditions between me and the LFS, I can guarentee mine are 500% better. That's why this coral was receeding. I took at least two hours to acclimate it, slowly adding water to the bag, floating the whole time. check your ph, my IV drip slipped and dosed about half a gallon dose reefbuilder into my 180 last week and my leather shrunk up and my green open brain started sliming that clear stuff you got, I had to do a 20 gallon water change to get everything back to normal. my ph shot up over 8.6....hth

I agree with you totally sir, need to leave it alone for a while. It's in it's final spot, so no problem. fishtechie...pH is !7.6! @ 8:35 am. damn, now how do I keep this stable? Never had the pH drop like this before. ------------------ Don't think so much....it takes the fun out of life!!!! |

wow! looks like we found the prob i hope, first do a water change, that should raise it a bit, try adding a little bit of baking soda to get it where you want it. then check it again, remember to add a little since baking soda can raise it dramatically... kalkwasser or B-ionic i beleive can stabilize your ph..check your ph on your topoff water also...hth

just my .02 but i have heard that if you run a seperate powerhead in the sump, with an airline running to the outside of the house your ph will remain stable through the night.

Try what Techie suggested...that pH is rather low...I'd also do a little water change just to help things along.
And David...DOUBLE to you! ------------------ The NUT! Alex's Ocean Realm GO FOR A DIVE!!! http://home.earthlink.net/~amariquit/thereef |
