Question Low Light Systems

Just curious as to who else has had good luck with low light systems.

my theory, if it aint broke don't fix it.

my 120 gallon has an older wet/dry, 200+ lbs. of LR and minimal, coarse substrate.

my hammer is starting to split, my candies are doubling, and my brain has tripled in size, and i have brought back another brain for a friend, that is starting to show growth. my green polyped sarcophyton was the first leather that i propagated successfully, and it has tripled in size and my lettuce coral is growing beautifully. my pearl is starting to recover from the poor state that it was in at the LFS. All under 2 watts per gallon of NO lighting.

any other success stories?

Well Jade...You are obviously doing something right!

Lighting is important, but so is every variable that goes into our tanks...Just because one has the latest nuclear reactor powered lights does not guarantee success...

It would be interesting to find out more about your practices...would be a great help for many.
Thanks

I also believe the "if it ain't broke...don't fix it" mentallity...but then as another reefer once said..."but that doesn't mean you can't make it better"...if you're getting these results, just imagine what you'ld get with the nuclear reactor...

Hey, Jadeclam. How about putting your set up info in your profile. That's a new feature that Reefland just made for us. Try it!

jade are all of your corals on the substrate, i was calculating the watts per gallon thing and found that if your corals are midway in the tank or above then they are actually getting more watts per gallon..ie, a coral on the substrate receiving 2 watts per gallon would receive 4 watts per gallon midway and close to 6 watts per g at the top.... am i right or do i have too much time on my hands....?

techie, that may be the case but i didn't think that that theory held true for NO lighting, the tank is also 24 in. tall so....
anyway, the lps are midway to upper, and the softs are lower. just waiting for the right derasa.

P.S. maybe there is a time thing in your favor.

But Techie...
Considering that you have 3w per g to start off with, the most you will get is 3w per g...it will lessen intensity as it gets deeper, but will not strengthen intensity as you go higher...since the highest is peaked at 3w per g...make any sense...

I've got time on my hands too as you can see...

Way to explain that point aquanut. yes thats 3 watts a gallon if its a 6 foot long tank or 2 watts if it is the 120 high like i have which is 4 foot long i have 10 watts a gallon on my 120 go figure

This is the most addictive thing that i have ever come across as well as expensive
