if you have the money to buy the right stuff, i would go with the 55 although alot of research should be done before taking on this hobby(task) the 55 will give you more room for error should something go wrong.but dont buy the 55 and skimp on the skimmer salt ...etc.etc buy the biggest tank you can afford for the amount of space availablethats my opinion?

I understand itd be alot of extra work but the main thing is that i really dont have alot of extra dough to buy a 55 gal. a skimmer lr/ls. and the powerheads at this time. do you think i should start off slow and go with the eclipse and work my way up....i have been researching for nearly 3 months so im not too worried about that end im gonna purchase some books real soon too. what do ya think everyone

If your going to get the 55, save the money and dont buy the eclipes. Start buying the stuff for the 55 and when you have it all then set it up. If you buy the eclipes youll wish you hadnt latter and used the money on your 55.
Im setting up a 58 oceanic and all I have so far is the tank. Will be buying the rest of the set up over the next 2 mounths or so. Like every thing else in this hobby
PATIENCE IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS and it will save you money in the long run.
I found out the hard way by buying a 29 to start with.

I am just curious how much you wanna spend?I I am 6 months into reefingand have about $1000 in my 46...I only have about $70 in my eclipse and the same in my girlfriends, mine is the exact samesetup as hers but currently with no fish turning into a grow tank on wednesday...I'va never had any problems with either...either way is a great wayto go but as soon as you go big it's like they say(GO BIG OR GO HOME)i always find myself spending too much on my tank(46gal) I just spent $88 on darned Lifereef overflow although I am fairly sure that it will the best possible...I love both my tanks...I like the big one thebest though I have it completly overstocked as many people would say and have no mearuably amounts of anything in the tank thank to 50lbs live rock and 60lbs live sand mostly the cpr bak pak II though....I like them both but remember this hobby is totally addicting.....my chick hates that I spend more time withmy tank then her(well she thiinks so) I probably do spend moreonthe tnak then her....Dan email if you need more info on anything, for her the6 isall shewants she doesn't take care of it anyways I do otherwise everything would be dead(seriously though).....Dan

Hey Fishguy2,
I'm in the Boston area and the best price on a 55 that I could find was $90.00

i agree with everyone, the 55 is the logical choice. i have set up small systems, and for a newcomer, it seems that they would get frustrated and quit. small systems are a tremendous amount of work. follow the advice of everyone here. if it is possible i would go for bigger than a 55.
