Feeding is something that is mandatory yet for many new aquarist they have no idea what a certain species needs or how often it needs fed. Do the "old timers" add supplements ? For myself ,I have clowns , blennies , dottybacks and a tang. There diet consists of dried flake (a different brand everytime I buy a new can) frozen brine shrimp and Nori or Seaweed selects. Flake gets fed twice a day , Brine as a treat about every 3rd (in addition to the flake) day and a sheet of nori in a holder at all times. The shrimp/snails get what the fish miss.
So what kind of fish do you have and what/how often do you feed them? ------------------ In this hobby patience is not a virtue,,,,,its mandatory. |

I have a Hippo tang, a maroon clown, a pair of Pearly headed jawfish, a scooter blenny, a royal gramma, a cleaner shrimp, and adding a new clean up crew of snails and hermits... only 2 hermits survived the last mantis
I feed twice a day. I also buy different flakes each time I buy another box/can. I keep a sheet or Nori clipped and add Brine, scallops and shrimp (Blended up) every 2 or 3 days. Formula 1 and 2 as well. I had a problem with over feeding... They always looked hungry But, I am better now. |

I have a Queen Angel, a maroon clown, a blue damsel and a Picasso trigger.
I feed them 3 or 4 times a day during the week, and about 5 or 6 times a day on weekends. No overfeeding problems at all, we can go into more detail about it during the week. The key is how much, not how many times What and how much? I will post that tomorrow, the list is long and I'm tired tonight Yes, I add Selcon and Zoe in their regular diet. Ok, here is what I feed my fish.
Dry: By Ocean Nutrition: Formula I Formula II Prime Reef Brine Shrimp Plus Seaweed Selects (Nori sheets) By Two Little Fishies (dried macroalgae) Red seaweed (Palmaria palmata) Purple seaweed (Porphyra umbilicalis) By Tetra: Tetra Delica Krill Tetra Delica Brine Shrimps Tetra Doro Marin (pellets) Tetra Discus (pellets) By Red Sea Fish Pharm: Vibragro (pellets) By Nutrafin: Large Krill White Shrimp By Aquatrol: Spirulina flakes By AquaSelect: Blood Worms Liquid vitamins: (soak food in them) Selcon (by American Marine) Zoe (by Kent Marine) Fresh: I make my own seafood mix: Clam, salmon, mussle, shrimp, crab, squid, silversides, all mixed with Selcon and in the blender it goes. Then I freeze it in a flat sandwich bag, easier to break pieces off it if it's flat and thin. Veggies: Broccoli (frozen, not boiled), peas injected in Selcon (peeled), four different types of macroalgae from the algae tank. I'm starting to wonder if my fish are eating better than I do Hello...Pizza Hut? add some Selcon to the mushrooms in my order, will ya? When I had Fish Only Aquariums,Alls I fed was Brine Shrimp,Clams,Squid and Prime Reef wich they chomped up right when I put it in every other day. They always knew when it was feeding time as my Picasso Trigger and my Miniautus Grouper were the first fish to greet me.All the others joined in when my Miniautus Gouper chased everyone around the tank when he got excited because he knew it was feeding time.Quite a show to watch.

Wow, what a menu.
Our damsels (and worms) get Sally's Frozen brine shrimp and frozen plankton. The gorgonians open up their polyps for this stuff too. Am open to some suggestions on variants, where the corals will benefit. Next week when I get down to ESV I'll pick up some of their spray-dried phytoplankton: http://www.esvco.com/prod17.htm ... but I'm waiting for Nut to surface, and see if he wants some stuff from there too. Had a girlfriend once, who would only eat shrimp... boiled, baked, french-fried, sweet 'n sour, steamed, scampi, poached or sauteed. Too bad I only knew about Sally's Frozen brand back then, could have simply tossed her a cube rather than wasting time and money at "Hunan Gourmet". ------------------ Cheers, Rob New York City |

I have 2 common clowns, a coral beauty, a firefish and a cleaner shrimp.
I believe in a strong varied diet, feed/rotate 3/4 times a day between flakes, and also supplement with frozen foods soaked in Selcon for added vitimens. ------------------ E-mail: fishies@ravenstar.com |
