I spend like a hour getting everything just right this afternoon and tonight I look in the reef and the crabs are having a bloody feild day. They think it time to jump up and down on the Gorgonaria which they knocked over. push off the candy corals which they did 2 times. and last but not least there is like 15 of them on the mushroom rock now I'm scared to see what they are doing.
its like it crab boxing night... i just watched one pull another one outa his little shell... ------------------ Fish can Talk ! if Only we would Listen.. |

Most ppl will say YES they are evil and to a certain degree I will agree, however im wondering how clean my LR and LS would stay if I actually took them out? yeah I could supplement them with other critters that are safer but there are crabs on reefs in the ocean so I would think that there is good that we dont see. I took alot of my crabs out of my tank. I still have about 20 or so micro hermits and a few porcelain crabs but other than that my snails outnumber my crabs now, which is how I like it! I havent really seen any crabs bothering any corals yet (Knock on wood) HTH

What does your porcelain crab look like? I have a crab, but do not know what he is, and I suspect him of eating a limpet, snails and maybe some amphipods. Mine looks flat and smooth, with feathery bristles on his claws that he wields as if he is trying to catch something in the water. He is very elusive, hiding under and between rocks. He is about 1" across. mgk [This message has been edited by mgk65 (edited 02-20-2001).] |

CRABS ARE THE DEVIL!!!! and on that note.... if you want a bigger hermit then I would recommend the red legged hermit it is the least aggressive of the hermits. However I haven't had luck with any crabs... they have all been sentanced to the Sump for Eternity! I do have a few hermits that I have a few shrimp though... they haven't done any harm yet.... Knock on wood... Right now I have a hitchhiker stone crab in my sump whose been bossing everyone around. They are great for eating the leftovers in there too. HTH

Get an anenome crab! They are harmless, and cool to watch (they're filter feeders).

Mobius your pic isn't working could you post it again?
Yeah some crabs are harmless.. but filter feeders won't help to clean up your tank, but they are cool to look at. If you absolutely have to get a crab, go for the micro hermits, they stay on the bottom and don't go after snails. Or so you think Henry ------------------ Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall down an open manhole and die. -Mel Brooks |
