I have a bubble coral in a 55 salt reef. The lighting is approx 170watts. What kind of lighting do the thrive on the best? Bottom of tank, middle or heavy lighting? Thanks a concerned learner....

Welcome
According to my coral book they will do just fine anywhere from medium to high flourscent lighting, and they like low to medium water flow. I am sure there are some people on here that actualy have one, but maybe this will help until someone else responds. I have 2 green bubble corals - both are at the bottom of my 110 with low flo. Lights in the tank are 4x110 PC + 2 x175 MH. Both have done well

I asked Dr. Ron Shimek this very question as I had three bubble corals and lost them all. He suggested I put my current one in shade and low flow, remove my peppermint shrimp, which I did. I also feed it a small piece of shrimp nightly. My bubble coral is thriving now.

Ocean Reef,
This bubble is under a 400-watt metal halide lamp: Bubble corals are quite tolerant of lighting conditions, they can adapt from fairly low light to quite igh levels, but IMO, they should be fed. I’ve always fed mine with cut up shrimp pieces or silversides once or twice a week. Evolution tends to strip critters of unused appendages, so the rule of thumb, especially with LPS corals is “if it has a mouth, feed it.” Regards, Scott ------------------ The definition of an expert is a washed-up drip under pressure. Razor, do peppermint shrimp harm bubbles? Mine started doing poorly awhile back and come to think of it, it was around the time I added a peppermint shrimp to the tank. Last night the bubble coral looked like its insides are coming out. I never see that shrimp, I'd never be able to catch it.
