Question Poll:How many dose Iodide?

Plain and simple.
Do you do it?
What benefits have you seen?
If you don't dose it why not?

I dont dose, and haavent for years. I dont see any need to dose something that I cant accuratley test for, especially if it can be toxic to the critters we keep. especially the microfauna. http://www.rodsreef.com/images/ricordia.jpg, is a pic of some ricordia that has never had iodine dosed to the taank it is in.

Well I use a salifert test kit and dose accordingly. What people who don't realize that dont dose is there aquarium is never just right. If they test right now there iodine levels are usually 0.00 Soft corals especially need iodine.
Seawater has a level of .06ppm I am a true advocate of mimicing nature so I test and keep my level at .06 I feel this is much more beneficial than any harm.

As far as result you can look at my sight and tell me. Look at some sights of people who dont dose. Compare. I think my corals actually grow faster than some.

I don't dose Iodide but I do dose Kent's Iodine. I use 3 drops every 2 days which keeps it at acceptable levels. This helps with the coloration on soft corals. Green leathers will keep the vibrant green color and zenia also require iodine.

Why don't you prop some of that xenia and sell it??? I use SeaChem's reef plus which has iodide and vitamin c and such. I only use about 1ml a week, but it seems to help my xenia and ricordia. I quit for a while and my ricordia didn't look as full as he used to, but I started using again and now he is very full. JMO

Sorry Chuck but got to totally disagree. I used to be of the same train of thought until I stopped dosing. It has been over six months now and there is absolutely no difference. Just look at my site for the proof. All those photos have just been taken. My soft corals reproduce and grow at amazing rates.

As long as you're feeding...you're dosing iodine.

Furthermore, the pathetic test kits used to measure iodine are about as effective as gazing into your tank and looking at the color of the water to determine the amount of iodine. So basing your idodine levels on a pathetic test kit is an absolute waste of time, and you've probably got twice as much iodine in your system as you think.

I totally disagree with Chuck as well.

Ouch! I think I was confusing this with iodine, which is good to dose on a regular basis, right? (holy newbie!)

Never dosed it, but from what I hear, its not necessary. I have xenia that pulses very fast. Before, I heard if you don't dose Iodine then they stop pulsing, or pulse slower. Not in my case though.

I dose about 4 drops whenever I think about it, which is probably once per month or so. I agree with others that the tank gets what Iodine it needs from food and in my case, ESV. I have a Hach iodine test kit (you have to do some math to use)that is probably the most inexpensive/accurate kit for our hobby. It always reads at least .04-.05.
