Dose heavily with DT's Phytoplankton. Dr. Ron Shimek told me that gonipora and alevoporas use this food source. Also try golden pearls in the smaller sizes. Carefull with dosing this as it is a VERY rich food source and can cause problems in your tank if you over do it.

wait a minute goniporia is hard to keep???? Why is this and what are their requirements? when dosing DT's do you turn all your mumps off for an hour so?

I've had Alveopora for two months now. I placed it in the sand in the corner of my tank, and feed it DT's nightly. It's expanded and looks really nice. BUT I am watching to see if it lasts.

yep - gonipora and alveopora are two of the hardest corals to keep. The best theory I've heard is that they come from extremely turbid, high nutrient waters and basically we can't provide them with sufficient nutrition to last in our tanks. New products(I think) are improving this outlook in my opinion. DT's and golden pearls are two I would try. I've been thinking about adding a gonipora and might do it if I get a bigger tank - no room for one now.

I've had an aleveopora (branching flowerpot) in my tank for 9 months now and it's still looking good (KNOCK ON WOOD). My tank is 19 months old, has a heavy bioload and always has lots to eat in it. The only problems I've experienced with it are 1) it doesn't like to be moved AT ALL and 2) my maroon clown goes through periods of bad attitude where it nips off pieces of the flowerpot and areas of the it will close up until the clown leaves it alone again. The rest of the time it is beautiful. Also, I've noticed that mine prefers low water flow, it enjoys just a slight swaying back and forth. (The clown is walking a thin line with me, the only thing saving her from a trip back to the LFS is my husband and the fact that I've had her the longest of all my fish).

A friend of mine was parting out his tank and I wound up with one, too. I put it about mid-height in the tank, directly under the halide bulb (14" below it). It is also in a light to moderate current. The 1st day it opened all the way up, but over the past 3 days it has only popped a little bit of the polyps out. Should I move it? Leave it be for a little while longer to see if it opens?

Thanks,
Scott

Somebody help me out. I've never seen nor heard of a product called Golden Pearls. What exactly is it and where can I get some. Either they don't sell it on the west coast or I'm not payin' attention to what's goin' on around me.

P.S Hey VP, nice specimen.

You can get Golden Pearls from www.brineshimpdirect.com . I've never actually seen them in a store.
