Can anybody tell me if peppermint shrimp will eat bubble tip anemonies. I know that they will eat aptasia, but are they only specific to aptasia, or will they eat bubble tips as well. I want to buy a bubble tip, but I have peppermint shrimp in my tank. I am trying to catch them, to put in my sump.Anybody know a good way to catch them? I have tried a number of different methods, but wth no success.
Thanks |

I know that a bubble tip will eat a peppermint shrimp. My bubble tip ate my peppermint shrimp about a month ago.
To answer your question I dont think so. |

An earlier post about catching crabs in the reef tank was to take a glass bottle, or any bottle, putting it against the glass or rock. Put a piece of shrimpin there, then check in the morning.

my pepermint ate my bubble tip after it had died, or when it was almost dead

Same here, my bubble tip ate the peppermint. However, after eating all of the Aiptasia, the other peppermint I have is eating the very small elephant ear mushrooms which is great for me. They are almost as bad as Aiptasia and grow like weeds. They have a nasty sting too. I have been watching one that is close to my anemone and the elephant ear is clearly winning the war. I am going to have to cut it off of the rock. To answer you question though, I do not think the peppermint is going to eat a mature anemone. But anything small that looks like one, may be eaten.

I don't know about anemones, but here's a thread I posted awhile back about my Bubble Coral and Peppermint Shrimp eating it. To catch them take a plastic water bottle, cut the top off, invert it, stick it back in throw a piece of food in the bottle and let it sink to the bottom. The next morning you should have caught something, crabs, shrimp, etc. It's very simple and works great. OH, Baywatch Babe® has a patent on this, so you will have to send her royality checks
