Post HLLE where what why and when

OK, the blue tang has it, but I'm not sure where he got it from. He's had it for a while, actually, but it's not out of hand YET.

I just sparked up my RedSea Berlin yesterday for the first time on the tank. I feed them (see profile) brine plus, prime reef, and romaine lettuce. I also have had a ground probe in the sump for 2 months.

NH3, NO3, NO2, etc are all fine.

So, my borglike collective friends, help me fix this problem.

Thanks,
Scott

ScottC, Vitamins, Vitamins, Vitamins, just soak their frozen food, other foods in Zoecon, Zoe Marine, Vitachem and the HLLE will be healed. My Emperor Angel had a hole in his head from HLLE and within 7 days it was healed with vitamins.

Scott C,
As stated use vitamins , alternate them , but use them and nix the romaine lettuce . Instead feed some Nori from the asian section of the grocery store or get tang heaven (you can get this at premium aquatics or IPSF) or other macro algae .Any of these will be a much better choice for your fish.HTH.

I know the nori is actual seaweed, but what are the actual disadvantages of the romaine?

If I put he 2 next to eachother, the fish will go for he romaine before the nori.

Fresh produce tends to have more chemicals that you will not be able to wash off. Romaine, like most lettuces, are also difficult to digest. My tang won't touch Nori, either. But he'll thrash green leaf lettuce in minutes. I try to get organicly grown stuff whenever I can. Anything high in Vitamin A and C is best. I also use Vitachem.

When I first got my tang he had HLLE really bad. It's been 3 months and it's now just around his head and a fine white line down his sides.

Couple other resons for HLLE: bad ground probe (I have seen the wire rot out inside before), insufficent water changes. Both I have seen have an affect on HLLE.

As a third thing too look for only on Tangs and Angels, is insufficent lighting, but that has yet to be proven to me yet.
