That's not a practical idea for a couple of reasons. First, it is difficult to ship anything this time of the year because of the hot weather and, second, it is very expensive to ship live sand because it has to be shipped FedEx overnight.Originally Posted by Samper

P.S. -- I forgot another reason: You should really see the sandbed you are getting the live sand from if at all possible.

If I found someone close who would be willing to help me out what in particular should I be looking for on or in their sandbed?

You would want to make sure that they do not have flatworms. You would want to see the overall condition of their tank to help you decide if you are even interesting in any of their sand. If you do get some of their sand, you would want to get it from just the top 1" layer of the sand bed and hopefully they would let you have a hair worm or two if they have any. Those suckers are very expensive nowadays. I paid $6.99 each for the six I purchased 10 months ago and I now have about two dozen in my tank that I can see. Some places want $9.99 each for them.Originally Posted by Samper
You might try using a shallow tupperware container with a lid for this project. All you need is something that will hold about a pint or two of sand in a fairly shallow layer on the bottom of the container and have space for an inch or two of water on top of the sand. This assumes that you will be getting back to your house in a couple of hours or less. It is not easy to scoop up sand from a sand bed without having it go all over the place but it can be done if you are very careful and use the right equipment -- something like a small tupperware container with a lid that you can use to cap it underwater before you lift it up.

Alright I'll start looking some someone here in NC. The beach is an hour and a half away but I'm sure it's so polluted it wouldnt be worth the drive. Thanks again Ninong.
