Coral Gel (coraline Algae)

Saw this stuff at this site

http://www.hotwww.com/hightide/store/cat_coralgel.htm

It’s called “CORAL GEL (CORALINE ALGAE)”

Here’s the description:

Coral Gel is a special formula of coraline algea, essential for all reefs, in an easy to apply gel. Turn off pumps for 30 minutes while adding the Coral Gel to your tank. Apply Coral Gel with a syringe or a brush. Just place it where ever you want it to grow. If you dump the viel straight into the tank the Gel could end up on the glass rather than on the rocks or areas that you have not selected. After circulation is turned on, the current may pick up some of the gel and circulate it around the tank. The spores from the gel should have started to attached in the 15 to 25 minutes the circulation was off. After about two weeks, you will start to see young coraline algae ranging from specs to spots, and patches, starting to form. Within a month to a month and a half the coraline will be present within your tank; provided you have the right conditions. Each packet contains millions of spores, enough to seed a 50 gal. tank. This product has worked well at controlling hair algae. After applying, sit back and enjoy the colors. Coral Gel is non-toxic to fish, corals, and invertebrates.

Has anyone tried this stuff?

Hi Msand9898

Welcome to Reefland!

I have not tried it yet, however I have made my own rock and am in the process of trying to seed it right now here is what I have done. I paid $2 at the LFS for him to scrap a bunch of coralline algae off the side of the tank for me (the stuff was plated very thickly, different colors too) I can guarantee you that I had more than enough to seed a 55 gallon tank and it was only 2 bucks....now as far as seeding goes I just put a couple cups of tank water in the blender and the coraline algae and mixed it up....turned off the powerheads and poured it in over the rocks. This coral jel sounds very interesting but im not gonna spend 35bux on the stuff.
